It's All Rainy
Topic: WFAA'a Pete Delkus

The water's ankle deep in my garden.

The rain's been coming hard since mid-morning; we're currently under a flash flood warning until 2:15 this afternoon; and the rain is anticipated to continue throughout the rest of the day and into the night.

They're saying that two inches have already fallen in the area.  The rain gauge situated on my garden fence shows three inches have fallen here.  As much as three additional inches are expected by the day's end.

I'm so glad I prepped the garden over the weekend.  These deep rains really worked wonders in my beds last year.  Fingers crossed.

Not everyone's happy about the rain.

I'm sure if you're one of the many people whose flight has been cancelled at or diverted from DFW airport, you are probably less than excited about what this means for my garden.

I'm home with a cold today, so I've been afforded the opportunity to watch a little local weather.

Buckets of rain are falling from the sky.

Roads are flooding out...

Animals are lining up two-by-two...

And Pete Delkus is working hard.  Once again, he's come into the office early during a weather event since his not-ready-for-prime-time-weather-man Steve McCauley can't handle the wet.

You can tell Pete's working hard because he's not wearing a jacket!

I'm off to take a nap.

Is WFAA's Pete Delkus a Control Freak?
Topic: WFAA'a Pete Delkus

I'm beginning to suspect that WFAA's Pete Delkus may be a little bit of a control freak.  He is the station's Chief Meteorologist having officially replaced tenured "Weather-Man" Troy Dungan late last year.  Pete does an admirable job covering the weather.

As the top weather guy there, his schedule has him on-the-air weeknights at the six and ten newscasts.

We're having some weather this morning.  It's a rather large rain event providing 100% coverage of the DFW viewing area.  Typically one of the other weather people are on deck weekend mornings.  I was expecting to see Meghan Danahey this morning.  Instead, there's Pete.   The message I infer from his presence is that the weather's serious, here's our top guy.

Normally, he'd be wearing a suit.  But this morning, he's in his shirt sleeves.  Because that's how hard he's working, you see.  Serious weather work... covering, y'know, rain.

This is the second time I've seen him do this.

A few weeks ago, all the weather professionals were predicting a big ice storm.  I arose at five AM to find the regular morning guy, Greg Fields, and Pete (again in his shirt sleeves) covering what amounted to be a non-event.

Another message I gather from his behavior is that these other weather people on staff are fine for the regular weather, but when something "serious" happens (e.g. rain, not-icing) - only Pete can report it.  'Nice way to build confidence in the capabilities of one's team, right?

I doubt that's the message WFAA really wants to communicate.
